We finished our SI video and it is awesome. I did some of the final revisions and editing of sound and transitions, and it was difficult but it was worth it. It is a good example of writing as a group. We all created a story of SI 2012 in about 6 minutes which poignantly documents our progress as inquirers, writers and leaders. I think I am working on all three all the time. My inquiry did not get much blog time because I was really focused on producing a coherent product for the group. Now I want to do a inquiry as a reflective process and how this can be implemented in the classroom with genre, ethnography, and personal narratives (except this project was a social narrative or a collaborative narrative). I am not going to back post, but rather blog in the future to document my reflections of daybooks and learning processes in the Summer Institute.
Laura, the video is amazing. I would like to know more about how the collaboration worked for you. What was it like to pull things together from the entire group. I think this could help me think about how something like this could work in a FYW classroom.

I am reluctant to do something similar with my FYW classroom because it takes such a long time to create and edit videos, and everyone has a different learning curve for technology. I think if you did something like this it would have to be smaller scale, like 30sec-1 minute videos with a group of three, then they put it all together- perhaps a 5 minute limit. However, they would have to work out the technical issues, so three days in the computer lab, minimum, would be necessary.

The harder part for me was editing the audio, so I would suggest some tips using garage band or audacity (on a pc). If you can reserve the Mac lab for several days, I may be able to come in your class as an outside speaker and give some help on consolidating the videos into one--like a quick demo. I am not teaching on the days you teach, so perhaps we could work out a time.
